Ruff Majik makes rocknroll like it should be. Heavy riffs, screeching guitars and an excellent voice all at high speed. I have shared the South African band before on the list ‘I Bless The Punk and Psych Down in Africa’.
They have released their album ‘The Devil’s Cattle’ that will be released on October 30. Favourite track for the moment is ‘All You Need is Space’ because it shows how heavy the band can be. Tune in for some excellent stonerrock.
It is quite incredible what kind of bands I am discovering thanks to my new African list. Someone commented I forgot about this band called Return To Worm Mountain wich seems to be a two piece between the the singer / guitarist of Black Math and some strange individual. Their music absolutely rules and they have just a new album out called ‘Therianthropy’ (it is about monsters). The album is released on Forbidden Place Records. Tune in enjoy some heaviness.
Recently I was thinking: ‘Is there such a thing as noiserock in Africa?’. So i went searching and asking around and this seemed not that easy. It is difficult to find noiserock but god, did I found awesome music! So this will be my Africa appreciation post filled with garage, punk, psych and other stuff. There is going to be a bit of everything here, but everything will be absolutely epic, I promise. Oh, and I will try to share bands or musicians that live in Africa, too keep it simple. This post ins ongoing and stuff will be added now and then. Please, iff you know of awesome stuff, let me know.
Black Math
This is a three piece from Durban in South Africa that mix stoner and noiserock and stuff. Their latest album ‘Birth Create Dissipate’ is pretty wild.
Again from South Africa this a garagepunk bank called Make-Overs. They have released a couple albums and their music is pretty wild. Its a duo, wich i feel is alfways cooler.
This is an excellent record! ‘The Black Tapes’ was released in 1986 and is possibly my favourite on this list (favourite track ‘vlermuis’). This record feels like the closest I came to finding noiserock in Africa. This is the best Cape Town music I have heard!
Return To Worm Mountain
It is quite incredible what kind of bands I am discovering thanks to this post. Someone commented I forgot about this band. They seem to be a two piece between the the singer / guitarist of Black Math and some strange individual. Their music absolutely rules and they have just a new album out called ‘Therianthropy’ (it is about monsters).
This is gorgeous heavy music from south africa from somewher ein the seventies. Heavy rock with acid and punk. This Whole album rules from beginning to end!
Taekwondo Sleepover
Only last year the Durban, Sout African band Taekwondo Sleepover released a new album “Sink or Float” and it is goddamn incredible. Never thought I would find suck incredible stuff. This is goddamn african noiserock, the stuff I was searching for! f. An absolute banger!
Okey, sorry for all the people who are taking this way more serious than me, I know William Onyeabor does not make ear shredding bonecrushing music but its William Onyeabor and it s so beautifull and trippy and it fits on Fuzzy Sun, there I said it.
TCIYF
Som dirty punk, and when I mean really dirty. From Soweto in South Africa. If you want to know what the name means you can look it up yourself.
Someone told me to look for the term ZAMROCK and now there is going to be an awfull lot of zamrock on this post because this mix of african music and psych is beyond awesome. Seems lots of people agree this band are the fathers of Zamrock.
The Peace
Another Zamrockband! ‘Black Power’ is one hell of an album full of fuzz and fun.
Getatchew Mekuria & The Ex & Guests
going to break my rules here myself because this shit is absolutely very awesome. And The Ex played in this if that helps a bit.
