Album of the week: Part Chimp – Drool

While I am patiently waiting on my LP to arrive I am listening too the new album by UK rockers Part Chimp which is called ‘Drool’ and released on June 4th. If I don’t forget about it I try to pick an album of the week and the last ones where Pressed, BigBrave and Throat and Part Chimp’s ‘Drool’ is an album that fits perfect with these gorgeous records. It is diffecult to put Part Chimp in a box and that is just what makes them great, they make gorgeous riffs but it isn’t metal, they have excellent solos and trippy guitarwork but it istn’t heavy psych, they sound like you just smoked a double spliff but they aren’t stoner, they are really noisy but it isn’t noiserock. They Are Part Chimp. ‘Drool’ is filled with no bullshit songbuilding and excellent riffage. In your face heavyness that is addictive.

Buy in the UK on Wrong Speed Records or in the USA on Learning Curve.

ALBUM OF THE WEEK: Pressed release ‘Mirrored Body’

Pressed has succeeded in making a gorgeous noiserock album, about everything on this album is good, the brutal and big fat fucking riffs, basslines that makes you bowels move, neurotic drumming and all this is topped with some raw vocals. Some tracks are just brutal, fast paced nobullshit noiserock tracks and others (like ‘Pity Teeth’) are just a bit different which make the whole album more varied and interesting to listen too. It is out on Te Ghost Is Clear Records and there is still Limited green vinyl!

Favourite track: ‘Pity Teeth’

Album of the Week: Throat release Smile Less

Last album of the week was the new album from BIG|BRAVE, a truly magnificent album that deserves all your attention. Now there is a new album of the week on Fuzzy Sun and it is the new one from Throat. Throat is a Finnish noiserockband that has made some pretty cool records and splits and stuff and now the four headed band returns with a new one called ‘Smile Less’. i still listen quite a lot to their previous album ‘Bareback’ and was expecting more of their dark no nonsense noiserock but ‘Smile Less’ is different, on it you hear a a band that has evolved to a new level, like a pokemon but then way more evil. The atmosphere may be less agressive then their previous work but it sure is colder and darker. You can hear a lot more postpunk in everything their do but it is all still rooted in that oldschool noiserock sound. here and their an epic guitar solo wich fitts remarkably good between their slow churning riffs.

‘Smile Less’ is more melodic, more haunting, more postpunk (like the tracks ‘Conveyer Line’ and ‘Grounding’) then their previous work but some tracks on that album are still in your face noiserock tracks (like ‘Shots’ and ‘Deadpan’) but the band keeps it experimental (like ‘Home is Where Your Hurt is’) wich makes it a very varied and heavy album and it all fits very good together. This beast is out on Svart Records.

A really good album, I give it a lot of stars, I do.

Album of the week: BIG|BRAVE release ‘Vital’

The new album by Montreal band BIG|BRAVE is nothing short of epic. The vocals are gorgeous and on the heavy and eerie riffs they sound even more fitting, like on the track ‘Of This Ilk’ they give it an epic feeling before the track explodes in pure bonecrushing riffs.I am quite blown away by this release, this is all atmosphere and heaviness combined with very (very) strong vocals. It has been a while since I heard music this haunting and heavy. This is very impressive.

The album is out April 23 on Southern Lord.
