Dead release ‘Up Yours’

Your favourite Australian duo is back! Jem and Jace made a new album called ‘Up Yours’. With Dead they have made some pretty awesome stuff before, always heavy, riff fueled music. ‘Up Yours’ is nasty, loud and made for listinging on max volume. Sometimes I get some Entombed vibes too which only makes it better. Dead is on one my duo list too, And on the Australian list. Order the LP on the bandcamp page now.

Two is more than enough to form a band

Sometimes I hear these bands that have only two humans in it and they make more noise then half an orchestra and I am always amazed how much energy and noise they produce with only two. And since I love lists (i know i know) I made a list! Mostly noiserock duos and I am sure I forgot about an awful lot so help out a bit and let me know who I forgot. Tune in for a list of loud duos (maybe next time I will do a list with one man bands)

Vandal X

Who better to start with then the Belgian duo Vandal X, godfathers of Belgian Noiserock. Check them out and if you need more Belgian noiserock, tune in for The Big Belgian Noiserocklist.

BEDTIMEMAGIC

The duo from Boston has recently made a split with the duo Greylocks that is really awesome.

Lightning Bolt

Ah Yes ofcourse Lightning Bolt! Probaly the best known noiserock duo making extremely awesome noise with only two dudes since the beginning of sound.

Melt-Banana

This one is so awesome. Relentless fast paced Japanese noiserock! Melt-Banana is also on my ridiculously long list called ‘The Cosmic side of Japan’.

BELK

From Leeds, These ones make absolutely brutal riff fueled heaviness.

Dead Neanderthals

From The Netherlands, not really noiserock but I really love their experimental noise/doom/whatever. Really good band.

Plague Organ

Dutch Duo wich has a member from Dead Neandertals, very evil music, watch yourselves.

Mr. Phylzzz

Cincinnati duo that released music on AmRep.

Dirty Junk

Aha! my favourite duo! Ended on my end of the year list of 2020 too, extremely heavy, extremely loud.

Pohl

Thrashy riffs rom Bristol.

Modern Technology

Their latest album ‘Service Provider’ is an absolute beast and still plays a lot at my place. From London. On My end of the year list of 2020.

Venus Twins

Brooklyn twin making hell of a racket.

The Glasgow duo that makes something between spacerock and noiserock.

Heavy Natural

From The Netherlands with a member from Dead Neanderthals. Blackened Punk?

SCRTCH

Very heavy bass driven noisepunk from Lille.

Bronson Arm

Bronson Arm plays heavy, punk fueled noiserock. The band consists of only of two dudes named Blake Bickel and Garrett Yates and it seems they don’t need no one else because they do a goddamn great job

Health Plan

Steve Hodson (Blacklisters/USA Nails) and Dan Holloway are the duo that form Health Plan and on the 7th of may they are about the release their new self titled album on Buzzhowl and Nim Brut

Yellow Bulb.

Travis Kuhlman (formerly of Buildings and currently of DUG) and Drew Haddon (also of High Marks, Warning Light) have made an album when they were isolated somewhere in the pandemic.

Cassels is a UK duo of two brothers Jim and Loz Beck and they make punk/noiserock with spoken work.

DEAD release “Raving Drooling”

“Raving Drooling” is an album made of riffs, riffs that we need, that you need, riffs that i am pretty sure could save us against the virus, they are so heavy and dense they could level a building with the first chord of the first track. This really cool album is made by the Australian duo DEAD who also manage the label Weemptyrooms. On this album are 7 tracks that been put really good together, they immediatly get stuck in your head, vocals fit perfectly in the music. The tracks are varied so this is a real good listen from start to finish. Tune in and listen to DEAD. Buy it on their bandcamp or on Wantage.

Favourite track: Repeating A Bad Decision.

Exclusive Premiere – Nunchukka Superfly by Dead: Not your friendly neighborhood Aussies

Notoriously hard to google, ‘Dead’ is a heavy band from down under.

‘Nunchakku Superfly’ is the third track made available from Dead’s upcoming EP ‘Raving Drooling’, and it’s promising. There’s a lot of shredding guitars, heavy riffs and hardcore screaming, and it’s all packed in one and a half minute. Also, there’s a complete lack of structure, good taste and overall common sense, but that’s just how we like it.

‘Dead’ consists of two band members, they’re called Jem and Jace. They look like your friendly neighbourhood Aussies, but their music and lyrics suggest otherwise. After a first listen and a closer look at the artwork, you can’t help to imagine J &J running through the streets, raving and drooling, carrying nunchucks and screaming ‘Superfly’ to no one in particular. The locals are scared out of their wits, if it’s not the zombie apocalyps, the coronavirus has clearly reached their doorsteps.

All kidding aside, the track is awesome, the riffs are massive, and there’s power in every note. Be sure to check out J&J’s label ‘Weemptyrooms’, lots of cool stuff to discover.

On their own label called WeemptyRooms the Australian heavyness called DEAD will release their new album “Raving Drooling”. This is an album I am looking very much forward too, Dead makes really fucking cool riffs and need to be heard by everyone. “Remorse” was their first shared track and now we get the second track “Digging Holes” and on these two tracks Dead shows they have evolved, their sound is better, Riffs are massive, vocals fit perfectly with the bleak heaviness and drums are really intense. This album will be out April one and listen, listen to this awesomeness!

The Australian list

Lots of people hate lists, i am not one of those people. i always loved lists, you can find new music fast, bands you never heard of.  They are all cozy in one place so it is easy and you don’t have to search the complete internet or ask your cool hipster buddies what is good these days. Now you can be that hipster yourself. yay

so be ready to ask your friends next time you see them if they know anything about the Australian scene. They will shuffle uneasily in their chair then find confidence again and say: “well King Gizard and The Lizard Wizard is awesome”. Then you can say, well duh and make some flippant noise with your lips.

If you find yourself in company of extreme nerds you can educate yourself fast in the Japanese or Belgian lists. If they know about this too then you find yourself among fans of Fuzzy Sun and great company ofcourse.

Now, we will ofcourse begin with King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard because the band is not only fantastic live but spews out great music faster then you can tell your friends about it.

I will, ofcourse, add bands and keep this list updated. For more psych check out Fuzzy Sun’s List.

CIVIC

CIVIC

It’s time to get acquainted with Melbourne’s CIVIC if you aren’t already. Flightless Records has been active recently with their band signings and continue with the Melbourne 5-piece. They are well known for their loud n sweaty performances in the up close and intimate venues in Australia.

CLAMM

The Austrialian trio Clamm is from Melbourne and makes very straight in your face heavy guitar music. ‘Keystone Pols’ from their rerelease is out for a listen and is furious, very loud and this is an album that will feel really at home in your record collection. I put Clamm in my ‘Australian List’ for obvious reasons.
